Couples Therapy

At the Menzies Anxiety Centre, we provide a compassionate and affirming space for couples to explore their relationships, navigate challenges, and foster deeper connections.

Clinical Psychologist Dan Macdonald provides tailored support for couples from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent partnerships.

Common Treatment Areas

Couples seek therapy for many reasons - whether to work through specific challenges or simply to strengthen their bond. Some of the most common areas we offer support for include:

  • Strengthening communication so each partner feels understood and respected

  • Repeating the same arguments or feeling “stuck”

  • Rebuilding trust and closeness following painful experiences or infidelity

  • Navigating changes or differences in intimacy and desire

  • Feeling emotionally distant, or drifting part and wanting to reconnect.

  • Managing life transitions, neurodivergence, or identity exploration as a team

Inclusive & Affirming Support

We understand that every relationship is different. Our couples therapy service is grounded in curiosity, care, and evidence-based practice.

We are particularly sensitive to the needs of LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent couples, and recognise that these relationships come with unique pressures and experiences. Our goal is to provide a space that feels safe, inclusive, and genuinely affirming.

Fees & Rebates

The fee for couples therapy is $290 per 50-minute session.

Please note that Medicare rebates are not available for couples therapy, as this service is not covered under a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Some private health funds may offer a rebate depending on your level of cover. If you are unsure what your policy includes, please contact your health fund directly before your first session.
