Dr Russell Downham
CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST
B.A. Hons 1 (Psychology), MClin Psych, MAPS
B.A. Hons 1 (Philosophy), M.A., PhD (Philosophy).
Russell’s therapeutic style is warm, curious, and gently challenging. When presenting concerns do not neatly fit diagnostic categories, he draws on processes of guided discovery grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Before training as a psychologist, Russell completed a PhD in Philosophy, driven by an early interest in existential questions. Alongside tutoring in Philosophy at university, he became certified as a philosophical counsellor. Eventually, Russell chose clinical psychology as a way to more effectively help people translate their intentions and values into action, using evidence-supported psychological interventions.
Weaving these threads together as a clinical psychologist, Russell helps people to respond purposefully to anxiety, relationship difficulties, and existential concerns – including death anxiety and the challenges that arise from our uniquely human capacity to think and feel about our lives in the midst of living them.
Russell offers Telehealth appointments on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Dr Russell Downham is a Clinical Psychologist offering Telehealth consultations for adults and couples.
Russell completed a Master of Psychology (Clinical) in 2016. Early in his training at a specialized anxiety clinic, he developed a passion for treating Anxiety Disorders using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), including exposure therapy. Since then, Russell has worked in various private practice settings supporting individuals and couples through the psychological challenges of living with themselves and others.
